Our Inspiration

Dr. Dileep Phadke

Phadke hospital, earlier known as Manorama Maternity home was founded in the year 1946 by Dr. M.V Phadke and Dr. Sumati Phadke who were a pioneering couple in the field of healthcare. Dr. M .V Phadke was a highly respected pediatrician, and Dr. Sumati Phadke was one of the few lady doctors of her time.

Together, they ran the hospital for over three and half decades serving the population of the city and building a legacy of excellence in healthcare.

The management of the hospital then passed on to their son Dr. Dileep Phadke who along with his sister, Dr. Anuradha Naralkar, continued running the hospital and carrying forward their parents’ vision and ideals through their skills and dedication.

Dr. Dileep Phadke,was one of the first pediatric surgeons in Pune and a gold medalist. He served as an Honorary Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the Sassoon General Hospital and B.J Medical College for over 20 years where he shared his wealth of knowledge and experience with many aspiring medical professionals.

Dr. Anuradha Naralkar, is a leading pediatrician in Pune, with a vast experience of over four decades in the field.

She is also the founder and force behind Anand Dham,an assisted living facility for senior citizens.

Her daughter Dr. Chaitra Naralkar-Samant is also a passionate pediatrician with an experience of over fifteen years, and is following her mother and grandfather’s footsteps. 

After Dr. Dileep Phadke’s passing in 2017, the ownership of the hospital passed on to his wife Mrs. Sangeeta Phadke and his son Dr. Nikhil Phadke. 

Dr Nikhil Phadke has trained at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in the United States, and is a leading molecular geneticist with over twenty years of experience in molecular diagnostics and genetic and genomic testing. He is the founder of GenePath Diagnostics, a very successful genetics lab as well as I-SHARE Foundation, a not-for-profit organization with a mission to innovate solutions for healthcare access, research and education.

For the running and management of the hospital, Dr. Anuradha Naralkar, Dr. Chaitra Naralkar-Samant, Dr. Nikhil Phadke and Mrs. Sangeeta Phadke are assisted by a highly dedicated team of administrative staff and nurses, many of whom have been part of the extended Phadke Hospital family for several decades.

Even today, the compassion, care and medical excellence offered to every single patient continues to be informed by the legacy of the past eight decades.

Dr. Dileep Phadke

Dr. Dileep Phadke was a distinguished pediatric surgeon whose legacy will forever resonate in the halls of Phadke Hospital. A celebrated surgeon in Pune and an honorary professor at the Sassoon Hospital, he shared his wealth of knowledge and experience with many aspiring medical professionals. Dr. Phadke’s journey in the field of pediatric surgery was not only defined by his exceptional skill and expertise but also by his unwavering dedication to the hospital founded by his esteemed doctor parents. Following the passing of his parents, he took on the role of managing the hospital with determination, ensuring that their vision and commitment to healthcare excellence lived on through his leadership. While he may have left us, his impact on the medical community and the lives he touched will continue to inspire generations to come.

Our Owner

Dr. Nikhil Phadke

Nikhil has over 18 years of experience in the fields of Molecular Biology, Proteomics and Molecular Diagnostics. He was a core team member of HandyLab (acquired by Becton Dickinson), a highly successful microfluidics-based molecular diagnostics startup in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. He founded Gene Path Diagnostics to bring state-of-the-art in vitro diagnostic tests to the Indian medical community and to develop novel high-quality affordable molecular diagnostic tests and platforms for the developing world. At Gene Path Diagnostics, Nikhil leads a highly multidisciplinary team of clinicians, scientists, counselors, bioinformaticians and engineers to develop and offer clinical-grade molecular diagnostic tests. He has several publications in international peer-reviewed journals and also has a number of granted patents and active patent applications in the US and in India. Nikhil is frequently invited as a speaker at national and international conferences and as a reviewer for international peer-reviewed journals. In addition to founding Gene Path Diagnostics, Nikhil is the founder of I-SHARE Foundation, a not-for-profit organization with a mission to innovate solutions for healthcare access, research and education. He is also the managing partner at Phadke Hospital in Pune, India – a specialty women’s and children’s hospital that has been in continuous operation since 1945. Nikhil obtained his PhD from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
